POTTERY LESSONS
AND GROUP SESSIONS

I was given a one to one throwing class as a present. I had a wonderful time and Helen’s teaching was excellent; so good in fact that I was able to produce some pleasing examples in only two hours. I would recommend Helen to anyone who wants a fun and very satisfying experience in pottery.
— Paul Cale

I thoroughly enjoyed my first ever pottery throwing lesson with the lovely Helen Blair. Helen is a wonderful teacher - patient and clear - and I was over the moon with my first effort! Can’t wait for next week.
— Sheryl Makin

Helen is a wonderfully patient and skilled teacher - allowing you space and time to explore but also knowing just when to step in and offer some expert guidance! We left feeling happy, connected and eager to plan our next session. Thank you!.
— Rebecca Alexander

The aim of my sessions and lessons is to provide a relaxing environment for you to be creative either alone or with your friends and family. Take some time out and learn a new skill or have a fun time with someone you’d like to catch up with.

POTTERY LESSONS

Come along to my cosy garden studio in Tulse Hill for a pottery lesson in either throwing on the wheel or hand building. I have two wheels so come for a private one to one lesson or bring a friend and learn together.

I offer various options and list the basic sessions below but also am very happy to chat about tailoring a session to you and what you’d like to achieve. You’ll be amazed how quickly you can learn with this type of teaching.

I can offer longer sessions and at various times of day. Please just enquire.

All my lesson prices include all equipment, clay, glazes and firings

HAND BUILDING

This is a great introduction to clay. I like to start with a demonstration of the basic hand building techniques. Then you can get making! Often my students have an idea of something they’d like to make before arriving but this isn’t necessary as I am very happy to guide you also.

You will be able to paint your hand built piece or pieces before leaving them with me to be finished and fired. Once ready I will contact you to collect your work.

THROWING

This really is the best way to learn to throw. One to one teaching means my students learn quickly and I can guide you individually through each process. You will be learning in a calm and peaceful space and I tailor each lesson around you. My students range from total beginners to the more experienced who may need a little help with a certain aspect of wheel throwing. Each lesson you can choose from my glazes and keep two of your best pots which will be glazed and fired for you. There will be a charge of £5 for any additional pots you’d like to keep and have glazed and fired. I try to have your work ready in 4 to 5 weeks.
